TALK ‘N Text management asserted replacing the high-scoring Tony Mitchell remains an option in the wake of the blowout loss suffered by the team at the hands of Petron Wednesday night in the PBA Governors Cup.
Team manager Aboy Castro made this clear shortly after the match won by the Boosters, 122-88, although he refused to say if the game would be the last for the 24-year-old American with the Tropang Texters.
“We just wanted more energy so we took him (Mitchell) out. We tried that (replacing Mitchell in the game), pero lumobo na ng husto ang lamang. Tambak na,” Castro told Spin.ph afterwards.
“We have another game on Friday. So we’ll take a look on Friday and see how it goes. Ganun talaga eh. Parang playoff basketball lang iyan, that’s why nung tambak na kami we rested him (Mitchell) and Ranidel (de Ocampo),” he added.
A one-time NBA D-League slam dunk champion, Mitchell came into the game averaging 37.3 points and 11.1 rebounds, but finished with a PBA career-low of seven points on 3-of-14 shooting.
The loss dropped the Tropang Texters at 2-4 in a tie with Barangay Ginebra for eighth and ninth spots in the standings.
Talk `N Text has three games left to resuscitate its sagging quarterfinal bid as it takes on Air21 on Friday, followed by back-to-back games against Rain or Shine and Barangay Ginebra next week.
