Petron Blaze relied on its high-octane offense to cement its grip on the top spot with a lopsided 112-87 victory over Barako Bull in their PBA Governors Cup match on Tuesday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Less than a week after ripping Air21 apart in a 112-86 rout, the Boosters their full offensive might against a listless Energy Cola side that was out-hustled, out-muscled and outgunned all throughout the game.
“We played good defense and our offense is there,” said Petron rookie coach Gee Abanilla, whose team won its fifth straight game after opening the conference with a loss to Meralco.
Import Elijah Millsap, this early being tabbed as a Best Import candidate, again stood at the forefront of the Boosters’ exceptional performance.
The former Los Angeles D-Fender forward finished with 31 points spiked by four three-pointers on top of nine rebounds, before sitting out the fourth period after Petron had opened a 93-69 lead.
Petron, whose biggest lead stood at 75-46, also drew big numbers from many-time PBA All-Defensive team member Arwind Santos, who scored 20 points on 9-of-12 shooting.
Sophomore Fil-Am Christopher Lutz added 19 points and six assists for the Blaze Boosters.
The loss snapped the Energy Cola’s three-game winning run as they fell into a tie with idel Rain or Shine E-Painters at 3-2 in the standings.
Import Mike Singletary led Barako Bull with 26 points and 10 rebounds, while Danny Seigle and Ronjay Buenafe added 18 and 16 markers, respectively.
