PBA commissioner Chito Salud led a group of players in handing out bags of food and other necessities to victims of the recent floods brought about by typhoon Maring and Habagat in Barangay Tumana, Marikina City Monday afternoon.
The covered basketball court in Bgy. Tumana was filled to overflowing by people who erupted into cheers upon seeing their basketball idols. Joining the relief operations were Petron Blaze’s June Mar Fajardo and Paolo Hubalde, GlobalPort Batang Pier’s Gary David and Chad Alonzo, Barangay Ginebra San Miguel’s Kerby Raymundo, Talk n Text’s Rich Alvarez and Aaron Aban, and the Barako Bull tandem of Jonas Vilanueva and Mark Sorongon.
Done in cooperation with Marikina Rep. Miro Quimbo and Bgy. Tumana chairman Ziffred Ancheta, the handing of relief bags is part of the Alagang PBA program.
“The PBA is always ready to help in difficult times,” said commissioner Salud. “These are the people who have supported the PBA all these years and we owe a lot to them. After being affected by the recent floods, we now see smiles on everyone’s faces as they get to see our PBA stars up close and personally receive the goods from them.”
For his part, Rep. Quimbo said,” We are very fortunate to have the PBA always ready to help the people of Marikina whenever calamities strike. We thank Comm. Salud and the players for taking time out from their busy schedules to visit and personally hand out the bags. Maraming salamat sa PBA.”
