Barangay Ginebra and Air21 both look for some relief as they clash in a duel of struggling teams in the PBA Governors Cup Wednesday.
The Kings and the Express both try to end an alarming skid as they tangle at 7:30 p.m. at the Cuneta Astrodome.
Air21 is in the tail end of the chart at 1-4, having lost its last three games while Ginebra is barely ahead at 1-3, setting out for the game coming off back-to-back defeats.
They are expected to figure in a battle in bid to come out of the rut.
“We have to get back on track or we fall way behind the leaders. At delikado kaming ma-out,” said Ginebra coach Ato Agustin.
“We have to find a way to win. Nakabaon na kami,” said Air21 coach Franz Pumaren.
The Kings could have been at 2-3 if not squandering a seven-point lead at the finish in a sorry 99-102 loss to the Alaska Milk Aces Sunday.
Dior Lowhorn and his teammates put up a big fight despite a lineup crippled by the absence of frontline players Kerby Raymundo and Japeth Aguilar.
Ginebra has lost much ceiling on Aguilar’s ouster that the team is now mulling on reactivating free agent Eric Menk.
The Express themselves are looking for trade deals in their hope to shore up their roster. Curiously, one of the players they hope to bring over to their camp is Raymundo.
The Express’ lone win in the tourney came at the expense of the San Mig Coffee Mixers, 93-82.
They lost their other four matches to the Globalport Batang Pier, the Barako Bull Energy, the Petron Blazers and the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters by an average margin of 11.5 points. No one was close. (SB)
