FIBA Asia Championship: Jordan steamrolls Kazakhstan for seventh place

FIBA Asia file/Nuki SabioJordan steamrolled Kazakhstan, 88-59, to grab seventh place in the FIBA Asia Championship on Sunday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Jordan dominated from start to finish, leaning on its hot outside shooting to pad its lead to as much as 35 points, 73-38, late in the third quarter.

The Jordanians made 11 of their 18 shots from downtown for an impressive 61 percent clip, with Mahmoud Abdeen hitting four three-pointers to lead his team with 20 points.

Hani Alfaraj chipped in 15 points, while naturalized guard Jimmy Baxter added 12 points for Jordan, which failed to surpass its silver medal finish in the tournament two years ago.

This year, the squad missed stars Sam Daghles, Zaid Abbas, and Rasheim Wright who all led the team in its Cinderella run to the finals in 2011.

Kazakhstan had little more than 12 hours to rest after the end of its last match, a classification duel with Qatar that finished after midnight on Saturday.

Rustan Yargaliyev scored 17 points to lead Kazakhstan, which settled for eighth place.
