Skidding and all, Singletary keeping the faith on Energy Cola

Skidding and all, Singletary keeping the faith on Energy ColaBARAKO Bull may have closed out its elimination round campaign in the PBA Governors Cup on a losing note, but import Mike Singletary is still keeping the faith on the Energy Cola as they now look forward to the coming playoffs.

The Energy Cola dropped an 89-91 heartbreaker against the Alaska Aces Wednesday night in a game that saw them blow an eight-point lead in the final three minutes.

In all, Barako lost three of its last four games to finish the elims with a 4-5 (win-loss) record.

“I don’t think it’s experience man. It’s just plays down the stretch that teams make and we don’t make, but we’ll get better and continue to make those plays down the line,” said the 6-foot-5 Singletary, who had another explosive night of 38 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, and four steals in a losing effort for Barako.

An NBA D-League veteran, Singletary has been doing it all for the Energy Cola, a team that has been on a roller coaster ride of late since starting the short season-ending conference with three victories in four games.

The soft-spoken Texas Tech product, who turns 25 on Thursday, said he’s hopeful Barako would be able to learn from these heartbreaking losses as they see action in their first playoff stint this season.

The quarterfinal playoffs start next week.

“Definitely the quarterfinals is a lot tougher but you know, this team has a great group of guys. We haven’t been playing on all cylinders for quite a while, but hopefully, in the quarterfinals we‘ll start hitting on all cylinders,” he added.

The Energy Cola though will have to play the rest of the conference without starting playmaker Eman Monfort, who broke his right pinkie during the team’s game against San Mig Coffee.

Barako Bull will also need to win twice against one of the top four teams of the elims to advance in the semifinals.
