NATIONAL team member Marc Pingris is ready to face the consequences of his act after figuring in a fight with rookie Kelly Nabong during the PBA Governors Cup game between San Mig Coffee and Globalport on Wednesday night.
A subdued Pingris emerged at the San Mig dugout nearly an hour after the game and immediately took responsibility for his action as he asked forgiveness from the public and specifically from his five-year-old son Michael, who saw the incident on television.
“Kailangan mo talagang i-control ang emotions mo pero wala, nangyari na eh. Gusto ko lang naman protektahan ang teammates ko. Ang dami kasi nagkakainitan kanina eh di lang nakikita ng mga refs,” explained the energetic power forward.
The 6-foot-5 San Mig big man said he won’t be questioning whatever sanctions will be meted on him by league commissioner Chito Salud.
“Sa palagay ko karapat-dapat sa akin yun (suspension and fine). Basta kung mali ka tanggapin mo, di `yung papatawarin ka lang bigla nang walang fine. Dun ka matututo kung may pagkakamali. Di lang suspension yan, may fine din yan,” he added.
The Gilas Pilipinas stalwart said he already told his son Mick not to imitate what his father did.
“Accept ko kung anumang nagawa na pagkakamali ko. Di kasi maganda sa mga batang nanunuod. Nagkakasuntukan. Eh tumawag nga din yung five years old na anak ko,” narrated the son-in-law of popular TV host and comedian Vic Sotto.
“Sabi ni Mick, ‘Dad, what happened? Bakit mo sinuntok `yung guy (Nabong).' Sabi ko sa kanya, ‘Sorry, kasi inaway niya teammate ko,” shared Pingris, who had to explain things further to his son.
“Sabi ko sa kanya, ‘Don’t do that (fist fight) to your classmate or friends ha. That’s bad. And next time, kailangan i-control ko sarili ko.”

San Mig's Joe Devance and Marvin Hayes were assessed technical fouls in the incident that started when Hayes and import Marqus Blakely got tangled up and fell to the floor following a fierce loose ball scuffle.
Devance was the first to react when Hayes appeared to kick Blakely in the head, shoving the Globalport rookie to the floor.
Nabong got involved when he jumped into the scene as he tried to help his fallen teammate, shoving Blakely away.
Pingris then threw a punch at Nabong as the two pulled each other’s jersey and went at it for several seconds before the fight was finally broken up.
