Asi Taulava is excited to return to the league he has loved for the past 14 years.
The playing rights of the 40-year-old Fil-Tongan was acquired by the Air21 Express last Saturday in a trade that saw veteran playmaker Mike Cortez jump over to the Meralco Bolts.
“I am so excited. I can’t wait to step on the floors of the PBA again. If only I can pull time,” said Taulava, who will debut in his number 88 Air21 jersey on Friday against the Talk n’ Text Tropang Texters.
Taulava bared that he is in top condition even though he hasn’t played competitive basketball since June 12 after helping the San Miguel Beer-Philippines squad clinch the title of the 4th ABL season.
Before he joined the Air21 practice last Thursday, the 2003 PBA MVP has been a daily fixture at the Treston gym doing some high level plyometrics routine under famed conditioning coach John Aquino.
“I am like a Boy Scout. I am always ready,” he said smiling.
Taulava bared that playing in the PBA again will give him goosebumps since being away for more than a year.
“I love the PBA. I have so much memories playing here. So it will be like a homecoming for me,” he added.
“I am so excited. I can’t wait to play against the best of the best today,” Taulava concluded. (SBadua)
