Tim Cone thinks ‘super talent’ Allein Maliksi too good to pass up for San Mig Coffee

Sports5 file/Paul Ryan TanFor San Mig Coffee coach Tim Cone, the lure of adding a talent like Allein Maliksi was too good to pass up.

On Friday, the PBA approved a deal sending the high-flying swingman from Barako Bull to San Mig Coffee in exchange for Wesley Gonzales, Chris Pacana, and a 2017 second round pick.

“I’ve always felt he was a super talent and when his name was mentioned as available, we jumped at him,” Cone wrote in a text message to InterAKTV.

The former University of Santo Tomas standout is expected to play in the Coffee Mixers’ game on Saturday against Air21 Express.

Even though he had originally wanted an intact team heading into the Governors’ Cup, Cone pulled a trigger on the deal.

“We weren’t looking to make any changes in the middle of the conference, but he was too good of a young prospect to pass up. He will really help solidify the future of this organization and he has the versatility to be able to play with either James (Yap) or PJ (Simon),” said Cone.
