San Mig Coffee to parade healthy James Yap, but no Marc Pingris, in Governors’ Cup opener

AKTV/Pranz Kaeno BillonesA healthy James Yap will suit up for the San Mig Coffee Mixers when they face the defending champion Rain or Shine Elasto Painters in the opener of the PBA GOvernors’ Cup on Wednesday.

The two-time Most Valuable Player was hampered by a nagging back injury for most of the Commissioner’s Cup and Tim Cone is excited to have his superstar swingman back in good shape.

“James is OK now and will be ready to go,” Cone told InterAKTV.

But the Mixers won’t have Marc Pingris, who will be given time to recuperate after a workhorse performance in the Gilas Pilipinas campaign in the FIBA Asia Championship.

“In the aftermath of the Gilas glow, it’s hard to put that away and get focused on our own stuff. That was too exciting. But we’ll find a way. Hopefully, we’ll live up to their wonderful play,” said Cone

“As for Rain or Shine, we couldn’t have picked a tougher assignment. We will play without Ping who we will allow to heal and refresh from his warrior-like Gilas stint, and we will certainly miss him. But with Marqus (Blakely) in tow and a healthy James, we feel we can hold the fort until his return in about a week.”
