PLAYING alongside Petron Blaze captain Danny Ildefonso is a dream come true for Doug Kramer.
Kramer is looking forward to teaming up with his idol after the trade that sent him from Barako Bull to Petron for Dorian Pena and a 2013 secound-round pick was approved by Commissioner Chito Salud on Monday.
“Danny I was my idol growing up. He’s one of the guys I look up to. It’s a big opportunity for me to play alongside a PBA legend like him,” said the former Ateneo Blue Eagle.
Coming off one of the finest seasons of his career with Barako Bull, Kramer said he will cherish the time he will spend with Ildefonso, even if they may end up having to fight for minutes in Petron's crowded frontline.
“Satisfaction comes from playing, nothing comes automatic. I will work my way up. If there is anything to worry about, siguro 'yun - playing time,” said Kramer.
“But I know there will be opportunities for me. I just hope I will be able to adjust in time,” he added.
As he rushes to grasp Petron’s system in time for his debut with the team against the Meralco Bolts on Friday, Kramer expressed optimism that his traumatic experience of being relegated to the reserve list with Petron’s sister team, Ginebra, will not happen again.
“I hope not. Definitely not. I am a different player now compared to when I was with Ginebra. I am more comfortable with my role and I know I can do my role very well,” said the 6-5 pride of Baguio City.
“I know it comes with minutes. Hindi naman ako siguro makaka-perform kung five minutes lang playing time ko. Pero of course it’s up to the coaches and syempre I will prove my worth.”
Meanwhile, Kramer bared he had no ill feelings toward Barako Bull after his trade.
“If I had any form of bitterness, baka hindi na ako nag-thank you sa kanila. It really pains me to leave the team last Saturday. Iba yung naging alaga nila sa akin,” he said.
“I know part of what I am now, I owe it to Barako Bull. I thank them so much for the opportunity to play for them. Kinuha pa nga nila akong endorser ng commercial nila,” added the 30-year-old.
Playing an average of 26.3 minutes for the George Chua franchise last season, Kramer averaged 8.6 points, 10.4 rebounds and 1 assist per game.
