PETRON has agreed to send veteran big man Dorian Pena and a future second-round draft pick to Barako Bull to get its hands on Doug Kramer in a deal which insiders said will be first step to an "explosive" deal.
The deal will give Petron a much younger back-up to June Mar Fajardo in Kramer, a former Ateneo standout who has been a consistent performer on both ends of the floor for Barako Bull this season.
The trade proposal was submitted to the PBA Commissioner’s office Saturday morning for approval after Barako’s tune-up game against the Alaska Aces, where Kramer no longer suited up.
The bull-strong big man was later seen saying his goodbye to consultant Rajko Toroman, coach Bong Ramos, and the rest of the Barako Bull staff.
Pena, on the other hand, is set for his second tour of duty with Barako Bull, which is also in need of a veteran presence inside as the team awaits the return of injured star Enrico Villanueva.
The former Ateneo star center is already undergoing rehab from an ACL surgery suffered eight months ago.
However, the final make-up of the Barako Bull lineup is still uncertain four days before the Governors Cup since sources said another deal is being cooked up by the franchise, one involving a certified league star.
