Getting his wish of finally getting to play the minutes he wanted, Jay Washington didn’t show any problem delivering in his first game with his new team, the GlobalPort Batang Pier.
He finished with 15 points and nine rebounds in 36 minutes of playing time, helping the team win over the Express on Wednesday.
“I like this team. It’s composed of a bunch of hardworking guys,” Washington said during the post-game interview.
“I was a little nervous out there and it took me a little bit to get settled.”
Last conference, Washington was unhappy with his reduced role with Petron Blaze and expressed his displeasure publicly.
In his first outing at GlobalPort, the two-time Best Player of the Conference awardee got the exposure he needs, starting as the team’s center.
The Batang Pier finished last in each of the first two conferences this season.
For GlobalPort to get out of the cellar, Washington believes there’s plenty of things to improve on.
“We need to do a better job closing quarters. Better teams will take advantage on our mistakes,” he said.
