Globalport official quashes David trade rumor, but admits no player 'indispensable'

Globalport says it has received feelers regarding a possible trade for Gary David (center), and there are rumors it could involve Ginebra's Kerby Raymundo and Meralco's Cliff Hodge. Jerome AscanoGLOBALPORT team manager BJ Manalo was quick to quash rumors of an impending trade supposedly involving Gary David, Kerby Raymundo, and Cliff Hodge, but was frank enough to admit that no one in the Batang Pier's lineup is indispensable.

Manalo said there is no truth to rumors being floated online that Globalport is looking to send David to Ginebra in a three-team deal that would have Globalport getting Meralco's Cliff Hodge and Ginebra's second-round draft pick, and Meralco getting Ginebra's Kerby Raymundo and Globalport's first-round pick in 2014.

The Batang Pier manager, however, said the team is not closing its doors to any deal that would make its lineup better while admitting they've received feelers from other teams with regards to David.

“May mga (teams) nagtatanong tungkol kay Gary, pero again, wala naman sa team namin ang indispensable. Basta makakabuti sa team, kasi ang decisions namin laging naka-base sa welfare ng team,” Manalo told Spin.ph on Thursday before the team’s practice at the Ronac gym.

David sat out Globalport’s 101-94 conference-opening victory over Air21 last August 14 before playing an off-the-bench role in the team’s 74-94 loss to defending champion Rain or Shine in Antipolo last Saturday.

Manalo said given David’s involvement with Gilas Pilipinas team the past three months, it wouldn’t be right to immediately thrust him into the starting guard spot since he has yet to re-acquaint himself with the team, particularly with newcomers like Jay Washington, Marvin Hayes and import Markeith Cummings.

“Siyempre si Gary nanggaling sa Gilas at di siya nakapag-practice ng matagal. But this week, dadahan-dahanin na namin ang pagpasok kay Gary kasi kailangan namin ang effort ng lahat ng members ng team,” added the Globalport official.
