Philippine national men’s basketball team point guard Jayson Castro made his mark as one of the best players in the region, getting a spot in the All-Star Five of the FIBA Asia Championship.
The Talk ‘N Text guard, who is making his first appearance in a high-level Asian competition, joined Kim Mingoo of South Korea, Lin Chih-Chieh of Chinese Taipei, and Oshin Sahakian and Hamed Haddadi of Iran as the tournament’s top performers.
Haddadi, the 7-foot-2 former NBA center, was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.
Castro averaged better than 11 points in nine games for Gilas Pilipinas. He was brilliant in the last two games, scoring 17 points in the semifinal victory over South Korea and 18 in the gold medal game against Iran.
