FIBA Asia Championship: Qatar repulses Kazakhstan in classification match

FIBA Asia file/Nuki SabioQatar warded off a late Kazakhstan rally to notch a 72-67 victory in the 2013 FIBA Asia Championship Saturday night at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Qatar built a 58-45 lead heading into the final period, but Kazakhstan used an 8-2 run late in the game to trim its deficit to two, 65-63.

The Qataris then converted four of their next free throws and a basket to grab a commanding 71-63 lead with a minute left and keep the Kazakhs at bay.

Yasseen Musa scored 18 points and five rebounds, while Daoud Mosa Daoud added 15 points for Qatar, which will face China on Sunday for fifth place.

Qatar missed the services of naturalized forward Jarvis Hayes, who suffered an injury during their quarterfinal match against South Korea last Saturday.

Mikhail Yevstigneyev posted 24 points and 13 rebounds for Kazakhstan, which will play Jordan for seventh place.
